A superb quality Reformed Gothic style pedestal partners desk in solid English oak. Acquired from a London barristers’ chambers, it bears a registered design number dating it to 1884.
One long drawer flanked by two shorter drawers to the front, over twin lockable cupboards with diagonal tongue and groove panelled doors (in the manner of Charles Eastlake) and shelving. The alternate side features three faux drawer fronts and twin opening cupboards with panelled doors, shelving on the left side. The right hand cupboard features beautiful wooden filing drawers with moulded handles. All raised on a plinth base.
Original tooled black leather to the top and fold out writing slope. Includes original ebonised wood pen tray. Gothic style brass drawer pulls and escutcheons.
Lovely deep colour throughout. A very solid, sturdy and useful piece in fine condition.
