Late Georgian Burr Walnut Occasional Table

SOLD

An attractive Late Georgian burr walnut occasional or lamp table.

Lobed burr walnut veneer top with stringing and crossbanding to the outer edges. Painted and grained inlaid circular central section. The mahogany base is raised on four fluted and canted legs united by a cross stretcher, on original ceramic castors.

Stamped “T. Willson  68 Great Queen Street  London” to the underside of the top. Thomas Willson (also spelt Wilson) was an auctioneer, furniture appraiser and broker who also had premises at 28 Little Queen Street and is identified in London trade directories circa 1799 – 1830. This piece is very much in the style of Gillows of Lancaster and London, and Thomas Willson is known to have re-sold furniture by this maker.

A couple of barely noticeable minor losses to veneer.

English, circa 1820s.
