The gardens represent honest industry; vegetables, washing done, flowers growing and a well earned moment of peace. The woman communes with her dog and birds… relates to them. Simple but profound moments in a day. The figures in both paintings are alone but not lonely, and their portion of life is sufficient unto the day.”
