A small Arts and Crafts style pine side table (tabouret). Hand painted and stained in penwork, a decoration first made fashionable in the early 19th Century, whereby black lacquer would be painted onto light timber before being scratched off with a fine pen. Here in an attractive design depicting stylised flowers and foliage. Shaped supports in a moorish inspired cutout design.

Lovely original finish. Stable stress crack and some wear to the floral decoration on the square moulded top, imparting an attractive patina. Repair to one corner, but does not detract overall from an unusual and attractive piece.
