Pair of Petite French Leather Armchairs
Seating
SOLD
A stylish matched pair of early 20th Century French low tub armchairs in the Renaissance Revival style .
Original rich brown leather decorated throughout with brass studs, forming patterns along the apron and scrolling front feet. Embossed leather border with a lozenge design around the concave back, retaining traces of original red and green colouring. Original feather cushions with removable rust coloured velvet covers atop horsehair stuffed sprung seats covered with hessian.
Smaller than usual size and petite in scale, these chairs show plentiful signs of use, wear and repair, retaining a beautifully tactile natural aged patina to the leather and oxidised brass nail heads.
We suggest this low slung Baroque design may possibly have influenced Otto Schultz’s 1930s/40s Art Deco style lounge chairs for Boet AB, his own high end retail store in Gothenburg, Sweden.
French, circa 1910.
