A fine quality Moorish side chair in ebonised hardwood, showing traces of the original gilded detailing. Richly decorated with beadwork turnings (known as mashrabiya) to the back, and to the wide frieze below the seat front and sides. Turned pad feet and original leathercloth seat.
A very well executed piece with a wonderful patina. Attributed to Liberty & Co, London, retailer, mid-1880s; examples of this style featuring in their Art Furniture catalogue (1884).
