Jacobean Revival Carved Oak Pedestal Desk

Tables & Desks

£850.00

An exuberantly carved Jacobean Revival Victorian oak twin pedestal desk. Originally from a solicitor’s office in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, it was purchased by the second family owners in the 1950s, from whom we acquired the piece.

Two lockable draws with sweeping carved floral motifs set within the top frieze emblazoned with lion mask corbels. Three drawers of increasing capacity with similar carved fronts and flanks to either pedestal, raised on plain chamfered plinth bases. Original brass handles. Chamfered recessed panels to the sides. Fully panelled back, with further lion mask corbels to the top corners, enabling it to be used freestanding and not limited to placement against a wall.

A superb quality desk with a little age related wear here and there, but retaining a lovely deep, rich colour with good proportions and useful size. Some minor interior areas of historic woodworm evidence have been treated as a precaution. The green leather writing surface, inset within carved edges, was replaced in the 1960s and remains in very good condition.

A beautiful and useful statement piece!

English, circa 1880s.
