Harvest Moon
Jo March
SOLD
Acrylic on canvas, framed.
Says Jo: “I hope my paintings have a sense of stillness, moments in time. Maybe a bit otherworldly, like Harvest Moon, which is about intoxication and also enchantment. A warm night after a laborious day, a job well done, rest earned, drink drunk! But also I hope the painting begs questions, especially with the figure in the distance receding back to the big house… the woman awake/ in charge… the poor men asleep.”
The warm day done, three bumpkins doze
Amidst the haystacks golden,
Whilst round their frowsy, drowsy heads,
The velvet night’s unfolding,
And under the eye of a watchful moon,
The Enchantress gains the hill,
And lost within her honey’d spell
The silent men sleep still.
