“Flowers of the Greenhouse” is one of a series of four symbolic female personifications of flowers, comprising “Flowers of the Mountain”, “Flowers of the Fields”, “Flowers of the Waters” and “Flowers of the Greenhouse” by Elisabeth Sonrel (1874-1953). She was a French painter and illustrator much renowned for her enchanting portraits, landscapes, allegorical and mystical scenes.
She studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of the painter Jules Lefebvre and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais between 1893 and 1941.
This delightful lithograph in the Art Nouveau style is signed in the lower left plate margin and presented in its beautiful original gold embellished decorative mount, and a hand painted fame, vividly evoking Belle Époque Paris.
