Chinese Blue and White Temple Urn

Decorative

£250.00

Temple urns, also known as temple jars or temple vases, were originally used for ceremonial and religious purposes, often holding offerings such as incense, flowers, or sacred scrolls.

This attractive example is characteristically adorned with intricate hand-painted floral and fish motifs. These designs are not merely decorative, but carry significant cultural symbolism. The foo dog atop the lid channels positive energy to ward off evil spirits; the catfish, abundance, and the peonies represent wealth and honour.

A couple of small chips to the glaze, but overall a lovely decorative piece.

Chinese, early 20th Century.
