Sarah Darby

I am a contemporary figurative oil painter working from life in my attic studio under natural light or en plein air in the Cotswolds.

I was born in 1974 in Devon and after gaining a first-class degree in Fine Art following an art foundation course, I took off travelling through China, Tibet and Japan, ending up living on a junk in Hong Kong. Upon returning to the UK, via Mongolia and Russia, I worked as a children’s book designer and art director for an Oxford publisher for twenty years.

My paintings are about honest observation. Whilst exploring the subtle tonal relationships of colour and light, I endeavour to interpret what I see as true to nature in a painterly yet refined way.
