Elliot Channer

Sculptor

I am predominantly a wildlife sculptor. I focus on capturing the life and grace of the subject. Concentrating on the key features of the animal, but allowing spontaneity to make up the main body of the sculpture in order to achieve as much life and character as possible in each piece.

My work combines my two passions: sculpture and wildlife. Influenced by the animal sculptures of Rembrandt Bugatti, I take inspiration from the countryside. Initially in Staffordshire and Derbyshire, I now travel the country in order to observe and photograph animals in their natural habitat. Alongside life size sculptures, I also scale down large animals, creating more manageable sculptures.

I work in plasticine over a metal armature. Working in a distinctive loose style, my completed pieces are then cast in bronze. I work closely with a team of skilled craftsmen at the bronze foundry in Birmingham where my work is cast using the ancient “lost wax” process.

All of my sculptures are produced in small limited editions, with each sculpture taking several weeks to complete. I also welcome commissions.
