Lucy Boydell

Artist and Sculptor

Working from her studio on the picturesque North Norfolk coast in the East of England, Lucy produces large scale drawings in charcoal and chalk and pen, ink and pastel of animals she photographs herself out in the wild, or on the farm and in zoos across the UK. Meeting with expert breeders and keepers up and down the country, Lucy returns to the studio and sets about creating life size or bigger drawings with just a stick of charcoal, a stick of chalk and a cut eraser on paper. Her drawings have huge presence and her subjects have big hearted personalities; there is a depth of form, texture and presence that leaps out from the paper to great effect.

Graduating with a fine art degree from Central St Martins School of Art in 1995, Lucy has been exhibiting her original work in well established galleries, the London Art Fairs and to private commission for collectors across the UK and abroad ever since.

Influences include the work of Stubbs, Dürer, Frink, Dégas, Paula Rego, Nicola Hicks and the photographer Tim Walker.

Artysan will be showing limited edition giclée prints of Lucy's animal originals, produced on the latest digital printers in archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle German Etching paper, mounted in conservation mounts. They will exhibit the highest degree of lightfastness when hung in the home.
