What I make
I am a textile artist and potter who occasionally ventures into other materials. The things I make include decorative textile pieces, scarves, earrings, greetings cards and domestic pottery. Natural themes such as landscapes, animals, plants and insects appear throughout my work in one form or another.
Why I make
I’m passionate about colour and am always seeking to share where I see colours that inspire me, whether subtle shades grouped together, startling contrasts or fleeting glimpses that leave behind impressions which I make permanent through my work. I’m also passionate about food and this informs my tableware, which is designed for everyday use. I love handling the materials I use, fabric and clay in equal measure. Pots are made to be held and used and fabric is treated with a protective spray rather than put behind glass.
How I make
I use a variety of techniques in my textiles work, including printing my own photographs on silk, silk painting, appliqué, free machine embroidery and hand stitching. Decorative pieces become wall hangings, framed pictures or "canvasses". My ceramics is wheel-thrown stoneware which is decorated with slips, glazes, oxides and sometimes precious metal and coloured lustres to produce tableware which is rustic yet quirky, simple yet occasionally blingy.
